AES & CAED Filing

Kewill’s AES Engine provides exporters with the facility for direct electronic reporting to various Customs authorities (e.g. AES, CAED, NES, SAGITTA, NCTS), thereby reducing exposure to penalties, both civil and criminal, and monetary fines.  Penalties and/or fines can be incurred for the delayed filing, failure to file, and the false filing of export information required.

AES or the Automated Export System is the electronic method for filing paper Shipper’s Export Declarations (SED) information with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Census Bureau.  Information reported through AES is referred to as Electronic Export Information (EEI) and is generally equivalent to information filed through the SED.

CAED or the Canadian Automated Export Declaration program gives registered exporters and agents the opportunity to report goods electronically to the Federal Government of Canada.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

  • Save Money - Don’t pay carriers to file on your behalf!
  • Save Time - Eliminate the extra steps of preparing and handling paper SED.
  • Automate Processes - Integration with host systems eliminates duplicate data entry and keystroke errors.
  • Eliminate Paper Review of Licenses against Shipments.
  • Ensure Compliance - Make sure the correct information is filed on time.
  • Avoid / Minimize Risks
  • Maintain Audit Trail (proof of filing) In-house.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

• ERP or other business system used to prepare the export documentation sends the required data file to a designated folder.

• Kewill's AES engine picks up the data, prepares the AES filing, and transmits it to AES for acceptance.

• Upon acceptance of the filing by AES an Internal Transaction Number (ITN) will be received as confirmation of the acceptance.

• At this point, the data can be placed in a designated folder for the ERP or other system to recover and place the ITN on the required documents and label to print. The ITN must be provided to the export carrier (sea, air, rail, or truck).

• Kewill's AES engine can also be used to print documents, including paper SEDs until they are phased out completely, eliminating the need to change the host system printing routines.

• In the event AES returns a rejection, Kewill's AES engine sends an email to the designated personnel who can then make the necessary changes on the host system and re-transmit, or use the Kewill AES engine and make the necessary changes, at which time the AES filing can be re-transmitted.

• Kewill's integrated SPEX system is available as a complete and fully automated export document production and management solution.

Since 1972 Kewill has maintained a sharp focus on all evolving global trade compliance regulatory initiatives that impact our customers. Through the years Kewill has been first to the marketplace with many innovative software products and services. With respect to AES, in May 2000 we were the very first company to successfully use the Customs Proprietary Format to send SEDs via EDI upload to AESDirect through the Internet. In October of 1999 Kewillt’s Forwarding package was the first to transmit live AES Option 3 data, and Kewill was also the first company to transmit AES data of any kind back in May of 1995. Kewill is ideally suited to help you expedite your international shipments and remain in compliance.
