Scotts & Co accelerates direct dispatch business model with Kewill

22 August 2008

GUILDFORD, UK – Scotts & Co., the multi-title mail order catalogue specialist, has selected Kewill (LSE: KWL), a leading provider of global solutions for the dynamic supply network, to supply and implement Kewill Trade to help it speed up its order processing.

Scotts & Co. operates a very successful year round business, but with a large increase in orders in the run up to Christmas. The company has warehouse facilities in Groundwell, Wiltshire, but only stores around 30% of its products here. The remaining 70% of products are distributed by direct dispatch. This means that for goods that Scotts & Co. doesn’t hold in its warehouse, it will take the order and send it onto the supplier, who will then ship the product to the customer bypassing the Scotts & Co. warehouse.

Scotts & Co. has outgrown its current system, which doesn’t give the company the support it now requires to be able to run its direct despatch business model. Currently, when an order is received by the company, a file is generated, which is in turn sent to a mailing house to create the paper work and carrier labels, who in turn then sends the order and labels to the suppliers, who use the paperwork. These steps, some manual, cause a delay in the picking, packing and shipping of the order. The Kewill solution will automate this process and enable Scotts & Co. to eliminate delay and get products to its customers more quickly.

Keith Greasley, Warehouse Operations and Logistics Director, Scotts & Co, said, “We selected Kewill Trade because it is a well established and commonly used software package in the mail order industry. Our belief was that the system offered the best solution for our customers, suppliers and products. It’s a modular system, so we can select what we need, making it scalable and affordable.  As our business grows we can increase the usage of the system and take additional modules.”

Jacquie Boast, Chief Operating Officer – Europe at Kewill said, “This solution provides the perfect solution to support Scotts & Co.’s direct dispatch business model. The company is looking to grow its business, while minimising lead times and warehouse based stock holdings, and at the same time enabling customers to get access to a much broader range of goods.”

About Scotts & Co

Scotts & Co. Direct Retailers, the multi-title mail order catalogue specialist, is a company of diverse character, which incorporates nine separate brands as 'partner companies, including the well known brands, Scotts of Stow and The Original Gift Company. Each of the brands or 'partners' is managed and operated separately in order to preserve its own brand identity. Headed by Chairman, Nigel Swabey, the mail order entrepreneur, the group is now believed to be printing and publishing more specialist mail order catalogues in the UK than even the PLC’s in the sector. Over the past ten years the group's nine catalogues have notched up more catalogue industry awards than any of their competitors. With a highly successful mail order and on-line operation and with flagship stores in Stow-in-the-Wold, the Cotswold based Company’s brands now share the customer service and fulfilment facilities at their hub in Groundwell, Wiltshire.
