We are looking for a talented Senior Technical Writer to join our team. The position requires a self-motivated individual with excellent written skills who will be responsible for researching, writing and editing documentation from reference materials to online help. This is a high impact position and an opportunity to work within a small team and create documentation materials for an existing product line of mission critical application for the shipping management industry. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop, draft, revise and edit technical documents including release notes, installation guides, user training and online help.
  • Review and contribute to functional specifications.
  • Ability to use rough outlines and other materials to produce finished documents.
  • Interview technical experts, developers, QA engineers, product, and project managers.
  • Develop application examples and scenarios for inclusion in technical documentation.
  • Design and implement computer based training modules.
  • Understand audience need and write at an appropriate level.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Help authoring tool is similar to RoboHelp HTML (output format is WebHelp with Table of Contents, Index, and Search). Experience with that type of tool and Help output is required. FrontPage is used for standalone Release Notes.
  • Must be comfortable editing HTML code to create custom ‘skin’ of WebHelp.
  • Experience with SQL is also highly desirable.
  • Experience with Excel to maintain current API documentation.
  • 6+ years of technical writing experience.
  • Proficient in English grammar, usage, mechanics and composition.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
  • Experience in graphic manipulation. 
  • Must be a great team player and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Experience with SQL and databases are highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with translation services and translated documentation is a plus.
  • Experience with enterprise-level web-based software and XML are highly desirable.
